Jennifer Aultman Kloth
Candidate - 4th District Alderman
What position are you running for?
I am a newcomer to city government running for alderman in Oconomowoc's 4th district.
Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in the Milwaukee area, but even from a young age, I knew I wanted to live in a smaller community. When I met my husband Aaron, a lifelong resident of Oconomowoc, I knew right away Oconomowoc was the place I was looking for to raise our family. My family and I have lived in Oconomowoc for the past 20 years, and I can honestly say, my family of 6 is incredibly blessed to be a part of this community.
Why are you running for office?
I have three main reasons why I felt it was important to run for office right now.
1. Public safety!!! As a growing community we need to make sure our fire/police are pacing along with that growth.
2. As our city continues to grow, we need to make sure we are honoring and respecting our history and maintain our small-town feel.
3. I strongly believe in public service. My family is growing up and I find I have the time to really give back by way of public service to the residents of Oconomowoc. I feel that in light of the sense of community and support my family has experienced these last 20 years, it was only right I take the time to give back and ensure our community can remain welcoming and strong for the next 20 years.
Provide some details on your community involvement over the past 2 years.
I have attended many of our council meetings, either in person or online. I was also appointed to Oconomowoc's Board of Review, where I currently serve. I also spend time volunteering at various community events and with local businesses.
What makes the City of Oconomowoc a great place to live?
EVERYTHING!!!!! From the lakes, to our parades, to your amazing small business owners we live in the greatest community! We have a great police department, expectational schools, and great parks. The list is extensive! My family and I are beyond blessed to live here. I look forward to bolstering the rich heritage we have developed by serving our city in local government.
What are the biggest issues facing the City of Oconomowoc and how do you plan on addressing them if elected?
While we have great fire/police, led by wonderful chiefs, their sustainable growth is the biggest issue we face as a city. While we are a growing community, these departments are not keeping pace with that growth. The response times for Western Lake Fire Department are in need of improvement, especially in areas where they might not have easy access to water supplies. I have been proactive in my approach to this issue, taking the time to speak to Chief Bowen about this issue. Additionally, our community has outgrown our volunteer/pd on-call way operation plan. If elected I am going to keep the lines of communication open by meeting with the chiefs, listening to their concerns and solutions, and taking those ideas to my constituents and the council.
Our values are centered around limited government control, fiscal responsibility, support for law enforcement, strong families, personal accountability, and community pride. How would you help support these values as an elected official in the City of Oconomowoc?
These are the values that I have come to love in Oconomowoc, and the values that make our city exceptional. As a member of the Common Council, I would continue to uphold and fight for our city so that it continues to be a welcoming place for both our families and our businesses. I would be a strong voice for ensuring our city government doesn’t unnecessarily encroach on our citizens while being responsive to their needs. The #1 reason I am running for alderman is to support our law enforcement. While I believe in limited government and fiscal responsibility, I believe we can support our first responders, law enforcement, and EMS in a way to ensure they have all the necessary tools to continue serving our city. I take tremendous pride in saying Oconomowoc has been my home for the past 20 years. It has been an excellent place to raise my family and I have every intention of ensuring it remains the same, welcoming community for other families.
Why should I vote for you?
I am the candidate that best represents the values of our community, not beholden to anyone else or their plans for our city. I believe in engaging with individuals, families, and business owners to best represent their views in city government. I serve at the pleasure of the voters in the 4th Aldermanic District. I will always remember my place in serving them and being their voice as we continue to move this city forward.
